Last day at school

Well, It's my last day at Rufus King and I will really miss this place. It is hard for me to deal with all the emotions when I have so much else going on right now....But alas, I have emptied my file cabinets, mail box, and turned in my grades & keys. I am glad that I already said my goodbye's to the kids--that was the hardest part. I leave them with my well wishes and prayers to become the best that they can be. I will miss my coworkers as well, in particular my partner Mr. Dupies, my friend Ms. Powell, my confident Ms. Sauve, Ms. Harvey, Mr. Willis, Mr. Smith--well I guess everyone (otherwise this list would just keep going). So why are my thoughts askew...let's see...

So yesterday pictures were taken and my beloved house was officially listed. Here is the information if you guys would like to see...http://public.mlswis.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?20060531171224704770000000&id=1

The pictures don't do the house justice...It is so much more beautiful. We redid every room in the house except the room with the pooh mural. That was there originally. I will be putting up before and after pictures eventually. I just haven't had the time...I only wish the listing could tell of the little things such as the herbal garden outside the side door (I love the smell of sage and basil as I walk out of the house.) The laundry chute in which I had so much joy...the raspberry bushes that Rob and I planted last year. The garden that is bountiful and will soon be full of sugar snap peas and green beans. And the Delphinium (one of our wedding flowers) that Robby bought me--he said that they meant "Beautiful Spirit" which reminded him of me.

So what else is going on-- you ask. Well yesterday I found out that I am 60 - 70% effaced and 1 - 2 cm. dilated at 36 weeks. You know what that means---technically I am almost halfway through the first stage of labor. This doesn't necessarily mean the baby will come soon, but it does appear to indicate that it is a good possibility. At my appointment yesterday my BP was 128/75, better than Saturday's reading of 138/80--but the doctor told me that if I have any further complications she was going to induce me. She also has me visiting her 3 times a week so she can keep an eye on me.

I told Rob the news on the phone, and you should have heard the panic in his voice--the idea of the baby possibly coming soon scared him. It has to be hard to be on the outside of all of this. While I have enjoyed the pregnancy, I am growing more uncomfortable and bedrest is not my idea of fun--I have too much I want to do. He on the otherhand is counting on having 4 weeks yet until the arrival and has absolutely no input or control to how it will all work out.

Okay so one last thing....for mother's day I asked Rob to have some portraits done of my tummy (by the way did i mention there is currently a smiley face below my belly button--you can thank rob for that). I came up with most of the poses and we hired a photographer and they just arrived yesterday. So here are some really cool pics (some of my favorites that I would like to share.) THese are 36 week photographs--and yes, my eyes are droopy because I am SOOOOO tired!

Hmmm...they don't appear to be uploading...I guess the pics will have to be on the next blog...

Pregnancy Complications

I have enjoyed being pregnant for the most part. It is so exciting feeling the kicks and hiccups (this kid has lots of hiccups!). However the last few weeks have been getting complicated, beyond the normal feet in my lungs and head in my pelvis.

The doc has been concerned that I am showing signs of preeclampsia. I have had high blood pressure, enormous swelling, and mild headaches....The swelling has been the worst part. Sometimes you can't see my ankles anymore. Othertimes my legs and feet actually become numb from the water....or my favorite I get cramps in the muscles of my legs because the water squishes them.

So yeah--bed rest, yadda yadda, keep legs elevated...drink fluids...what fun...

Who has time for all that when I have to prepare to move, finish preparing for the baby and finish out the school year. I had to beg the doc to let me finish the last few days of school. She wrote me a note saying that I should not work more than half days....

So anyway--the purpose of today's blog is to record yesterday. Yesterday, we were in Sun Prairie looking at a house we are pretty interested in. I laid down for most of the car ride and was only on my feet for about 3-4 hours....However on the car ride back I began to have some pretty big contractions (Big in the terms of --the strongest I have felt yet.) They were not regular, so I knew that it was false labor. When we got home I laid on the couch, feet elevated, drank juice, yadda yadda, and timed the contractions. Well anyway after a period of time I noticed the baby was not moving. THis was a little concerning, so I had Rob rub my tummy which usually gets him/her moving. But it didn't...So then I went to the one thing that always gets him/her moving --music. We put that on--but she/he still did not move. Almost an hour had gone by without him/her moving so I called the doc. (If you don't know about pregnancy--a baby typically moves 20 - 30 times an hour--this is why there was concern.) They asked me to come in and get monitored...

So we drove to the hospital....(2nd visit for this child)....On the way to the hospital, he/she began moving again!! YEAH!!! But they still recommended that I come in and get monitored....So that was a fun and long visit at the hospital. Baby Schnake was monitored for about two hours and was reacting very well with a strong heartbeat and good reactivity. (Of course she/he is going to be on good behavior for the doc.)

So all is well--but I just wanted to have this documented so that I can tell this child of the things he/she put me through even before birth...

The promotion

Robby has received a promotion at American Family. I am so proud of him. He has worked very hard to earn it! He is now a Risk Managment Consultant....A fancy title for a fancy job. YEAH ROB BY!

With all good things though come change, and well we are beginning another big change. Good-bye Milwaukee, hello Madison.

We are sad to leave our house, especially since we almost have it just the way we want it. However, Madison is a good city and I am sure we will find a great house there. I will really miss my job. I love my school and honestly cannot imagine enjoying another school as much. How many people can say that when they get to their job they walk down the halls with a hop in their step and a smile on their face. Who can say that there are NEVER two days alike. I have worked with over 200 kids in the past year and I feel so close to all of them. It has been a privilege to be apart of their lives. Okay--enough of the kooky stuff...

So the back to the move. We are hoping to have the house on the market this weekend. We have already begun looking at houses in Madison. The complicated part of all of this is the baby's actual arrival. If he/she would just let us know when he/she is planning on entering the world it would make things so much easier for us. So are we moving before or after the baby is born??? We have no idea. We do know it is going to be rough either way. ...

Stay tuned to future posts on the house...we have lots of before and after pictures...we have really transformed the house in Milwaukee. ...and are so proud....

Debi & Lisa threw a wonderful baby shower for little robessica on April 29th. It was a fun time and the baby got much of what he/she needed. I am happy to say that the baby will be clean and smell good due to the wonderful clothes and bath things we received. I am running a little behind on writing thank you cards, but they are coming very soon...See next blog to see why things are running so slow.
